Why is Sleep Important for Self Care

So today I’m going to write about sleep. Tomorrow is Day light savings and we gain an hour.

So growing up I was always a night owl I liked to go to bed late and wake up late.  I married someone not like that all. He likes to go to bed early and wake up early. My daughter is just like him.

That first year of her life was the hardest year of mine. My husband just started a second job so he was working all the time and was no help. Luckily we lived with my parents and my mom helped me some. My daughter didn’t sleep. I breast fed exclusively so I would nurse her and she’d dose off. Then 30 minutes later she’d be up again. She would want to sleep in 30 minute chunks throughout the night. Maybe that worked for her but her mama needed more than 30 minutes at a time. So some nights my mom would get up in the middle of the night because she could hear me up with her for the millionth time. She’d have me nurse her then she’d take her so I could go sleep a couple hours till she had to be eat again. She was a colicky baby so she wanted to eat and cry and never sleep. I’m glad my mom helped during those early months because I was pretty much a zombie and mu husband was working from about 7am till 10 or 11pm between the two jobs so I knew he needed to sleep when he was home. Luckily his job situation changed and he could help with her after about six months.

A lot of people don’t like the time change effect on kids but since my daughter is still a weird sleeper it doesn’t really seem to phase her. She falls asleep really early and wakes up early. her body sleeps when it wants to sleep.

I’m glad for the extra hour and have been trying to give myself that extra hour even before this. I’ve been waking up a little earlier than I was use to and starting my day so the sun being up will hopefully help me with that. Blogging and keeping up with all of the things I do on the computer takes a lot of time so I am going to be taking advantage of that extra hour.
