Company Overview

Anhoni Patel, known as Mrs Patel, founded in 2012 in San Francisco to help both pregnant and breastfeeding women. Mrs Patel’s makes handcrafted lactation and pregnancy products using recipes handed down from mother to daughter for generations following Ayurveda, which is an ancient Indian medicinal system.

Some of the products they offer are lactation cookies, munch crunch, lactation tea, lactation treats, and more!

Chai Spice Lactation Tea

My favorite product in this Mrs. Patel’s review is the chai spice lactation tea. It’s a milk water tea that’s vegan, helps with lactation, and is caffeine-free. I drank a cup almost every day. To make it taste better, I added a little almond milk and sugar to it.

It has cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and rooibos (sweet red tea from South Africa). You can drink this tea hot or cold. I drank it hot and found that drinking hot relaxed me more. n

Lactation Treats

Mrs. Patel’s lactation treats are an old family recipe that are full of ingredients to help with your lactation needs and milk supply. I recommend the chocolate ones because they have a layer of chocolate on top to make them a little more tasty.

These bars have a strong Indian flavor. They are not cookies or brownies. They’re super easy to grab and eat. The bars are made to help you with four things:

  1. Lactation
  2. Nutrition
  3. Strength
  4. Postpartum Healing

The fenugreek in them helps with lactation and increasing your milk supply. The coconut in them provides healthy fat. The almond meal is there for protein and for omega-3 fatty acids.

They also have herbs that help your muscles and joints and ginger for digestion. Mrs. Patel’s recommends that you eat 1 bar every morning with food.

How much does it cost?

It costs $10.99 for a 14 pack of the chai spice lactation tea. The chocolate lactation treats cost $25 for a box of 12 bars. Each superbar is $2 or you can get a box of 6 bars for $10.99. The box is a better deal because you’ll save a dollar. Orders over $75 get free shipping!

Is it worth the cost?

Absolutely! A mother’s milk is the most important thing you can give your newborn. If you’re struggling to make enough milk for your baby, you owe to your child to give them as much as humanly possible.

If you’re unsure about the products, start with a small order and see what they can do for you. Make sure you’re keeping track of how much milk you produce in a day so you can see if your milk production is up or not.

Important things you should know

Do not use Mrs Patel’s lactation products if you’re pregnant. Instead, I suggest their pregnancy teas. Those with thyroid, blood sugar issues (such as diabetes), peanut allergies and those taking certain blood clotting medications should avoid fenugreek.

What vitamins help with lactation?

Before taking any supplements, please consult with your doctor. If you took a prenatal vitamin while pregnant, continue to do so as long as you are breastfeeding. Vitamins to make sure you’re getting include: zinc, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, iodine, choline, and DHA.

Does drinking water increase breastmilk supply?

Yes. Water is extremely important for milk production. A good rule of thumb to follow is aiming to drink .5 ounces of water for each pound you weigh. You’ll need to drink additional water beyond this while nursing. Drink to satisfy your thirst in order to stay hydrated.

What foods increase breastmilk supply?

Fenugreek, oatmeal or oat milk, fennel seeds, and garlic have been known to help some women. While there’s no guarantee they will work, give them a try with your doctor’s approval.
