So you’re hosting Friendsgiving? Learn how to create a simple Friendsgiving Invitation that you can print out, email, or send on social media to your friends. I’ll even help you figure out what the correct wording is for a friendsgiving invitation.

So, What is Friendsgiving?

Friendsgiving is a quasi-Thanksgiving celebration that includes friends and favorites, and not necessarily your family. It’s a great way to celebrate being thankful for your friends, neighbors, or colleagues, and an excellent excuse to eat a turkey dinner twice in one month!

How to Plan Friendsgiving

You can read this post about how I like to plan Friendsgiving so that it’s low stress and low key. But here are the basics:

Set The Details – Decide on a date, time, and location of your Friendsgiving feast.

Create the guestlist – consider who you really want to enjoy some time with, and be sure that the guests will enjoy each other.

Plan the food – Cook it yourself, order catering, or do a pot-luck style Friendsgiving.

Other Details:

You’ll need to make some decisions along the way while your planning your Friendsgiving party. Decide if you’ll be drinking or if it should be a more dry event. Are kids invited? Should you play friendsgiving games, or just relax and enjoy each others’ company? Finally, decide on how you’d like to invite people to your friendsgiving event. I suggest creating a formal invitation. It’s much more fun than a text message!

Even if you want to text your invitations or send them via a DM, having a nicely designed invitation makes the event extra special.

How To Create A Friendsgiving Invitation for Free

I do 90% of my graphic design for social media and this blog using Canva.com. Canva is also an amazing resource for things like invitations, flyers, and other things you might need for your home life. Canva is free (although there are paid options if you choose), and really simple to use.

Step 1: Search Templates.

Inside Canva, use the search bar and look up “thanksgiving” templates. Change your filters on the side to choose invitations, and other things to narrow down the search. Here I choose to see both square and landscape templates. From here you can choose the one that you like the look of the best. You’ll be able to change the fonts, colors, and wording for your Friendsgiving invitations later.

Step 2: Edit Your Friendsgiving Invitation.

Choose your favorite, and it will open up in a new window. I like the Eat, Drink, and Be Thankful template.

Step 3: Make it Your Own

Here’s the fun part. With Canva, you can decide on the fonts, words, and details that you want on your friendsgiving invitations. Edit the template a lot, or leave it as-is and just update the address and phone number, it’s up to you. You can see that I didn’t make a whole lot of changes here. I edited the text colors to make them more red, and adjusted the square border so it is more orange. I also adjusted some of the fonts. Canva’s pre-made template designs are often so good that I don’t change them at all.

Step 4: Invite Your Friends!

Canva creations can be downloaded as PDFs so that you can print them or as JPGs that can be printed, texted or emailed to your invitees.

How do I use Canva?

I’m not getting into the nitty gritty of how to use the canva app in this post. It’s fairly easy to figure out, but if you need help, check youtube for hundreds of tutorials. I suggest starting with one project, like this one, and learning as you go. That’s how I learned!
